Elizabeth Ludwig was honored to receive the HOLT Medallion Award this month from the Virginia Romance Writers (VRW) for her book, A Tempting Taste of Mystery, part of the Sugarcreek Amish Mysteries series from Guideposts. Named for VRW’s first president Cynthia Holt, the HOLT has been awarded annually since 1995 and strives to identify books and authors that appeal to readers. Because of this, no editors, agents or authors are eligible to judge the contest. Though she did not have this in mind when she wrote the book, Ludwig said she is thrilled to know that the story has been so well received.
“So many of my favorite memories are tied to food,” Ludwig said. “As a child, I can remember waking up to the inviting scent of fried eggs, warm tortillas, and frying bacon. Later, as an adult, I recall fondly the many countless hours spent icing Christmas cookies with my kids, or laughing with friends over potluck meals. In fact, I have an entire book of recipes exchanged or passed down from these many get-togethers. The loving pages, many of them handwritten, are among my greatest treasures. Sorting through those old recipes made this book so much fun to write! Baking has long been one of my hobbies, so it truly was a pleasure to combine two of my loves into one ‘tempting taste of mystery.’”
This is the fourth book Ludwig has written in the Sugarcreek Amish Mysteries series, and her twentieth novel overall. Her latest releases include Don’t Rock the Boat and Shifting Sands, part of the Mysteries of Martha’s Vineyard series, also from Guideposts.
