The City of Orange Economic Development Corporation and the City Council are set to give economic incentives, a tax abatement, and annex land to help a local business relocate.
Performance ATV, now on West Roundbunch Road outside of Bridge City, plans to construct an 18,000 square foot building worth $1.3 million at 9590 Interstate 10. The land is outside the city limits, but in the extraterritorial jurisdiction. The deal includes a “friendly annexation, according to city meeting agendas.
In addition, the city is looking at spending up to $192,000 for infrastructure at the site for the company. The plan also includes a 100 percent property tax abatement for three years.
City Economic Development Director Jay Trahan in a memo said the company is expected to have up to 15 full-time and up to 10 part-time jobs. The company estimates annual sales at $4 million.
Trahan said the $192,000 will be for site work, the building foundation, and plumbing.
Performance ATV Powersports and Offroad will have the brands Polaris, Can Am, and Seadoo, Trahan said.
The Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors will meet at 8:30 Tuesday morning and conduct a public hearing on the deal and then vote on the expenditure. The City Council meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday and will also vote on the economic development deal. Both meet in the Council Auditorium next to the Orange Public Library.
How many years will it take for the city to recover all these expenses? The city should first repair the roads and drainage inside the city limits .
