
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating two crashes that occurred in Orange County at about the same time on Sunday night. Sergeant Stephanie Davis with the DPS reported that troopers responded to a fatal multiple vehicle crash on FM 105 near Mansfield Road and to an auto-pedestrian crash on Olsteen Road.
At approximately 7:15 PM, DPS Troopers received a call of a multiple vehicle crash on FM 105 in the Vidor area. Troopers report that a 1996 Honda passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on FM 105. A 2008 Ford SUV was traveling southbound on FM 105. The driver of the Honda entered a curve and he traveled into the southbound lane colliding head-on with the Ford.
Vivian Townsend Markle, age 72, of Vidor the driver of the Ford was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital. Markle did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital by emergency room personnel. The driver of the Honda was Blake Travis Bowen, age 36, of Vidor. He was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with unknown injuries. Troopers are still investigating the factors of this fatal crash.
Initial reports from the troopers on the auto-pedestrian crash state that a pedestrian was walking across the street on Olsteen road at about 7:15 Sunday night when she was struck by a Nissan Frontier. The driver was backing out of a private driveway when he struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian, 47-year-old Kimberly Ford of Vidor, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital. Her injuries did not appear to be life threatening. The driver of the Nissan, 33–year-old Jonathan Stevens of Vidor, was not injured.
