The Stark House in downtown Orange has been closed to tours for several months. In honor of Mother’s Day, the Stark Foundation will open the historic home for tours this weekend.
Drew Whatley with the Stark Foundation said they are happy to get the home back open and welcomes everyone to come visit the beautiful Stark House. Mother’s Day is kind of a landmark date for the Stark House Whatley pointed out because of the ladies in the family, Frances Ann Lutcher and Miriam Lutcher Stark, who were active women in the community and influential mothers. Whatley encouraged, “We’d really love to have people swing on by.”
With Mother’s Day this weekend, the Stark House will have some added attractions to the tours according to Whatley. A couple of unique areas that will be featured during tours are the family’s library and the music room. The library will be opened more for visitors to see the collection of books better. The 1910 Steinway grand piano will be played during all the tours. “We’ve got some other stuff going on too with relations to Mother’s Day, so it will be a really interesting and fun tour,” Whatley informed.
This weekend will kick off the tours at the Stark House for the remainder of this year. Whatley indicated there will be tours of the house during the BassMaster fishing tournament in conjunction with Art in the Park on Saturday, June 9. More tours are planned for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons.
There are plenty of places open for the tours Friday, May 11. Spaces are getting scarce for those on Saturday, May 12. The tours are free beginning at 10:10 AM until 3:10 PM both days. The tours will go to the house every twenty minutes.
