A double steal by Bridge City in the sixth inning produced the winning run as the Cardinals beat Hardin-Jefferson 3-2 at Vincent-Beck Stadium Thursday.
With Peyton Havard at first and Cace Skinner at third and two outs, the Cards attempted a double steal. Skinner scored from third as Havard was being tagged out between first and second. The umpires gathered after the play and said Skinner scored before the third out was made, giving BC the go ahead run and eventually the win.
Havard started the game and finished with 8 K’s before leaving the game in the sixth after reaching the pitch limit. Justyn Romero came in to get the win.
Greyson Kash pitched a good game but took the complete game loss. Lead off batter Brayden Pimerko led HJ with three hits.
Schuyler Thibodaux had two of the seven hits for BC.
Game Two is Friday at 7pm on KOGT. If a third game is needed it will be played Saturday afternoon.
