A man is dead following a tragic accident in the south end of Newton County.
Deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Department said officers and other emergency crews were dispatched to Deweyville on Wednesday when a caller reported that the body of Oscar Almendarez had been discovered under a pick up truck.
Following an investigation into the incident, it was later determined that the Almendarez, 63, of Deweyville, had apparently placed the front wheels of the truck on ramps and was under the truck working on the vehicle when it fell off the ramps killing him.
Almendarez was pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Dana Ashmore.
