Last year was a tough one for the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs. With that season behind them the Lady Mustangs have a new coach in Tiffany McFatter who is excited to take over the program at West Orange-Stark.
Coach McFatter has some young ladies returning to build on for the new season. Pitcher Mariah Mims is showing improvement in her senior year which will help the Lady Mustangs’ cause. Designated Player Sidnee Lewis should be a major asset for West Orange-Stark. Sophomore Gabby Tims returns as does Aliyah Mims at second base. Destiny Lebuff also returns to the varsity.
Trying to establish a winning program for the Lady Mustangs, McFatter will use a group of new faces on the diamond. Kyla Smith, Latoya Janice, Di’Lynn Robinson, Caranaysha Angelle, Jaydyn Steverson, and Le’naiaya Mouton are all moving up to the Lady Mustangs’ varsity. McFatter believes, “All of them should be good assets for us this year.”
Aleigh Mims, Lewis, and Angelle should all swing big bats for the Lady Mustangs according to Coach McFatter. The coach is hoping for good things with the bat out of Gabby Tims in her second year on the team.
Pitching has not been a strength in recent seasons for West Orange-Stark, but McFatter has three ladies she is counting on in the circle. Mariah Mims will be the primary Lady Mustang pitcher. Angelle and Aliyah Mims will be the backup pitchers. The coach is counting on her amazing infield to back up the pitchers with a strong defense. The key will be getting the ball over the plate to force the opponents to put the ball in play. “I think we can do that this year between those three pitchers,” McFatter contends.
It will be an uphill battle for the Lady Mustangs. McFatter is optimistic about making progress this year. She is wanting to see a little more team chemistry which has been absent on past West Orange-Stark softball teams. Coach McFatter is counting on the Lady Mustangs to be a little smarter on the diamond, making the good plays, and being mentally tough. “Doing what we need to do to be able to be successful this year,” McFatter concluded.
