The driver of a commercial log truck was injured after his truck hit the back of another log truck in the fog Tuesday morning. A log went into the cab of the truck and hit the driver. The collision was about 8 a.m. on Highway 87 North at the International Paper plant.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reports 56-year-old Timothy Stuckey of Pitkin, Louisiana, was driving a Freightliner truck that ran into the rear of a Western truck driven by 49-year-old James Downs of Deridder, Louisiana. Stuckey was taken by Acadian to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
DPS said the Western rig was traveling south on Highway 87 and had stopped to turn left onto Owens Illinois Road, which leads into the paper mill. The Freightliner, also traveling south, slowed to turn onto the same road when his truck hit the other.
According to DPS, Downs was not reported as injured.
