An Orange County grand jury has indicted the former director of the non-profit group CASA for felony theft in connection with charging more than $40,000 to the group’s credit cards without permission.
Nikki Jones, whose full name is Elena Nicole Jones, has not been arrested because she is now living out of state. She is accused of using the credit cards mainly to get cash at casinos.
CASA stands for court-appointed special advocates. Adult volunteers are trained to stand with abused children through court procedures. The Sabine Neches Chapter of CASA is based in Orange and also covers Newton, Jasper, Tyler, Hardin and Sabine counties. Services by the group were not interrupted by the theft.
Jones left the group in January after the board of directors discovered the credit card charges. The Orange Police Department investigated the case.
