A jury Wednesday gave the maximum punishment of 20 years in prison to a Kountze man who pleaded guilty of intoxication manslaughter for a collision that killed a Vidor man last year.
39-year-old Michael Lynn Davis asked the jury to decide his punishment. In addition to the prison years, the jury also assessed him the maximum fine of $10,000. Punishment range for the felony is two to 20 years.
Court testimony showed Davis had methamphetamine and Xanax in his bloodstream when he drove off FM 105 and hit 77-year-old Jerry Campbell. Campbell had been outside working along his fenceline in May 2016. He died at the scene.
The punishment trial was held before 163rd State District Judge Dennis Powell with Assistant District Attorney Krispen Walker prosecuting.
