A couple of robbers at a convenience store early Monday left empty handed because the clerk saw the “armed” one had a toy pistol.
Orange police report two robbers went to the Star Stop, 1402 16th Street, at 2 a.m. Monday. An hour earlier, a robber took cash from Crawdad’s at 4080 Interstate 10 after threatening the clerk, but a weapon was not displayed.
“Right now, we are unable to say (the two robberies) are related,” said Detective Captain Robert Enmon. He said the two crimes were different.
At the one at the Star Stop, two men were involved. Both were wearing dark clothing. One had a dark cloth or shirt covering his face and the other had a white cloth or shirt on his face. One held the door open while the second went to the counter with the toy pistol.
The robber demanded money but the clerk refused because he could see the man was holding a toy gun. The robber then saw customers were inside and both him and his accomplice left.
The Crawdad’s was robbed at 12:55 a.m. Monday by a man who came up to the clerk and demanded money. She gave the money, though she did not see a weapon.
Late Saturday night a gunman robbed the convenience store at Park Avenue and 10th Street.
Captain Enmon said business owners who have video surveillance systems should check the systems to assure they are working.
