Congressman Kevin Brady (right), who used to serve as our Congressman in Orange County before district lines were redrawn, had just left practice before the shooting started Wednesday morning.
Brady posted, “I attended practice this morning for the 2017 Congressional Baseball Game for Charity but left moments before the shooting began. I am so grateful for the heroic action of the Capitol Hill Police Force protection detail and pray for the full recovery of my roommate Congressman Steve Scalise (left) and others wounded this morning. The quick action of Scalise’s protection detail saved many lives this morning.”
The gunman, identified as James Hodgkinson, 66, from Illinois, took aim and fired on a park in Alexandria, Va., as Republican members of Congress held a morning baseball practice, wounding five people, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (La.). Hodgkinson later died from his injuries in the shootout with police.
KOGT’s Gary Stelly said, “Congressman Brady had a monthly program on KOGT and during baseball season we always talked about the Astros and his game with other lawmakers. He took the game seriously so I knew he had to be in the area. Fortunately he is okay.”
