Carolyn Verret Phelps Miller, 80, of Orange, passed away on May12, 2017.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2017, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Officiating will be Pastor E. Dale Lee of Cowboy Church of Orange County. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Bob Herrin Cemetery near Bon Wier.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.
Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on November 29, 1936, she was the daughter of Joseph A. Verret and Eva Ruth (Stanton) Verret. She was a member of the Cowboy Church of Orange County. She was also a member of the American Staffordshire Terrier Club, Gulf Coast American Staffordshire Club, and the Beaumont Kennel Club. She was recognized as an AKC Breeder of Merit. She was a breeder of top winning and producing Blue American Staffordshire Terriers and American Cocker Spaniels. She was the first in history to breed the chocolate and white Tricolor Cocker Spaniel and personally showed to his championship.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Charles Phelps; her second husband, Jackie L. Miller; her daughter, Jo Lynn Phelps Matula; her brothers, Joseph A. Verret, Jr., and Charles Stanton Verret; and her sister, Mary Helen Verret.
She is survived by her children, Mary Ellen Fry-Raley and husband Ronald, and Charles Phelps, Jr.; her grandchildren, Rusty Fry, Jeremy Fry, Wesley Fry, Joseph Phelps, Christina Tagle, Matthew Phelps, Samantha McKellar; and many great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Butch Verret, Rusty Fry, Jeremy Fry, Ronnie Raley, Joseph Phelps, and Aaron Burton. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Cooper, L.G. Miller, and L. J. Castille.
