The City Council in Bridge City had a short meeting Tuesday, but the council did hear some good news. City Manager Jerry Jones said filters have been installed in two of the three water wells in Bridge City.
The wells on FM 408 and on Rachal near the City Hall now have the filters in them and are supplying all the water for Bridge City. Early results are good with no signs of iron or manganese in the water after going through the filters according to Jones. He added that as part of the breaking-in period there will be some further backwashing of the system which could cause some disruption of the clear water for the next few days. Jones stated, “The filters are doing exactly what we installed those to do.”
The one remaining well to receive filters is the Romero well which recently had a new lining installed in it. Jones indicates the city will get approval from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) as soon as possible to install its new filters.
The Let Us Know Everything or LUKE is nearly operational in Bridge City. Jones informed that the staff at City Hall has received training for LUKE and signs have been ordered that will help publicize the free app which is available for citizens in Bridge City to use. With the free app citizens can take pictures on their cell phones of problems they observe in the city and send the pictures to the attention of City Hall. The city manager believes the modified 311 system will be useful in resolving and eliminating complaints on minor issues in the city.
The City Council approved a resolution last night recognizing the week of May 8 through May 13 as Economic Development Week in Orange County. The next scheduled meeting of the City Council will be May 16 in Bridge City.
