This past weekend the Vidor Mighty Pirate Pit Crew competed in the second annual State of Texas High School Barbecue Cook Off in Burnet, Texas. The Pit Crew was a combined team of Culinary Arts and Welding students in the Vidor High School CTE program. The team consisted of Culinary Arts students, Stephanie Freeman, Kalie Johnson, Dalton Poteet, Megan Walles and Shayla Wilcox. The Welding students were Hugh Lloyd, Payton Ramirez, and Quentin Saavedra.
This was a first time competition for the Vidor Mighty Pirate Pit Crew who brought home several awards. The Crew won the first place Grand Champion Chef’s Choice with their Potato Bombs. They also won first place Grand Champion Chicken with their Smoked Chicken. The team received 3rd place for Best of Pit Build which was a Cajun Microwave built by the welding boys. They won 8th place for their dessert of Dutch Oven Apple Cobbler and 9th place for their barbecue sauce. The team placed 7th overall out of the 25 teams that competed in the cook off.
