Orange police have opened an investigation of at least $10,000 or more in unauthorized credit card charges on accounts for the local non-profit children’s advocacy group CASA.
“We’re early into the investigation and getting documentation,” said Detective Captain Robert Enmon. The probe involves “possible theft from credit cards.”
CASA stands for court-appointed special advocates. The group trains adult volunteers to stand with abused children through court procedures. The nationwide group has the Sabine Neches chapter based in Orange. The chapter covers Orange, Newton, Jasper, Tyler, Hardin and Sabine counties.
On Tuesday, the president and vice president of the board of directors of the group brought their information to police. The CASA offices are on Gloria Drive off Interstate 10.
Johnny Trahan is the president of CASA and Kim Dickerson is vice president.
Trahan said, “Fortunately CASA will not be out the money that was allegedly put on a credit card. So we will be able to continue serving the community. We’re also fortunate to have Michelle Jones who has come down from our Jasper office to take over so we will not miss a beat.”
