Charlotte Chiasson received her award as Bridge City’s Citizen of the Year at the 57th Annual Banquet held Monday evening at the BC Elementary School. Chiasson (center, with family) has dedicated the majority of her life serving the Bridge City area. Most recently, Chiasson, a 1970 BC graduate, finished a book entitled “The History of Prairie View-Bridge City.” A project she’s been working on for 20 years.
For 15 years she was the Executive Vice President of the Chamber. She was also a member of the BC Beautification Committee, Rainbow Bridge Dedication Committee, American Red Cross, PTA, BC Little League, BCISD Clerk and Judge, and was a columnist for the Orange Countian Newspaper back in the late 80’s. Charlotte has spent the 13 years working at Lamar State College-Orange.
Bridge City Radiator & Auto Repair was named Business of the Year. Kirk Roccaforte and the late Shirley Roccaforte have been running an auto repair business in Bridge City since 1979. Roccaforte is also the former mayor and current city council member. Roccaforte thanked his employees Tara Crone, son Aaron and Kyle Manuel.
In other business, outgoing President Scot Shaffer passed the gavel to Elyse Thibodeaux; Michael Hanneman was surprised with the Ambassador of the Year Award, and Shirley Zimmerman was recognized as a lifetime ambassador. Beth Arnold is the new Ambassador Chairperson. The Gulf Coast Playboys Band provided music as attendees got to select food from a host of local restaurants. Kirk Ellender was the emcee and Madison Juneau provided a wonderful version of the National Anthem.
