
A 64-year-old man riding an electric handicap scooter was taken to the emergency room after he was hit by a car on Highway 87 South Wednesday afternoon. Orange police report Greg Williford had minor injuries. He was taken by Acadian Ambulance to the Baptist Hospital Orange Emergency Room.
The collision was about 4:15 p.m. in the 3800 block of Highway 87 south of FM 105. Officer J.L. Goins said a Nissan Altima driven by a 25-year-old woman from Orange was traveling southbound in the outside lane when the car hit Williford’s scooter.
Officer Goins reported the driver said the scooter was partly in the travel lane and she could not avoid hitting it. Williford told police he was driving on the shoulder and the car hit him from the back.
Officer Goins said no witnesses were available. No citations were issued because of the conflicting stories.

Two businesses were hit by burglars during the three-day Christmas vacation. On Monday, employees at Entergy reported someone had broken into a pickup truck and Jeep parked at the 409 Strickland Drive back lot. Orange police reported several items were stolen. Surveillance cameras were in operation on the lot and will be reviewed.
Early Tuesday morning, employees at Averitt Express trucking, 4000 Tulane Road, called police to report that someone broke into several semi-trucks parked there. In addition, one truck was damaged and the warehouse was entered.
