For the second consecutive season, Louisiana Tech has garnered national recognition on the offensive line with Ethan Reed being selected to the 2016 USA TODAY Sports Freshman All-America team, it was announced by the publication Sunday.
Reed becomes just the fourth Bulldog in the 114-year history of the program to net All-America honors as a freshman, while he is the second offensive lineman in as many years to garner the award after O’Shea Dugas was named to 247sports.com’s Freshman All-America Team in 2015.
As a redshirt freshman, Reed earned a starting role for the Bulldogs in fall camp and started every game this season at right guard. He helped lead a unit that ranks third nationally in tackles for loss allowed (3.69/g). Reed helps pave the way for an offense that ranks fifth nationally in scoring (44.0 ppg) and eighth in total offense (516.1).
This season, Reed was part of a Bulldog team that posted an 8-5 record and the program’s second Conference USA West Division title in the last three years. Most recently, Reed was voted to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team.
Reed and LA Tech will be in action for the final time this season when the Bulldogs square off against No. 25 Navy in the 2016 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 23 at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. (Latechsports.com)
