Pinehurst is the only city in Orange County that has had a drop in sales tax income during the past five years. Other cities have had steady increases, according to information from the Texas Comptroller’s Office.
For September sales this year, Pinehurst received $54,513 and has collected $572,115 for the first nine months of the year. In 2011, the city received $69,442 for September and had $661,825 for the year to date. The city’s nine month total this year is $89,706 less than five years ago.
The losses in sales taxes could end in two to three years for Pinehurst. Last week HEB announced plans to build a 68,000 square foot store off MacArthur Drive in Pinehurst.
