A 73-year-old woman filed a complaint with Orange police about sending $700 to a man she met through Facebook. She said he needed the money for a construction project. The bank turned down her loan requests a $10,000 and then $3,000. She had planned to send the loan money to the man.
Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the woman willing sent the money. He advises people not to send money to people they don’t know in person.
The woman told police she had been communicating with the man through Facebook. He asked her for $10,000 to finish a construction project that would pay $350,000. Then he would pay her back.
The woman tried unsuccessfully to get bank loans to help the man. She then sent $700 through a store wire service, against the advice of family and friends.
Police said the company the man said he worked for does not exist.
