
An alarm helped foil a burglar at a store on Burton Avenue early Tuesday morning. Orange police said the alarm sounded about 2:30 a.m. at the Texas Food Store, 305 Burton. Officer T.P. Pruitt found that the metal bars had been unscrewed and removed from a back window. The glass to the window was also broken. A five-gallon plastic bucket was turned upside down by the window to offer a way to step up to the window, which was about six feet off the ground. The officer reported nothing appeared to be missing from the store.
A passenger car flipped over Monday after a collision with an SUV in the 2100 block of MacArthur Drive. The 48-year-old driver of the SUV was taken by Acadian Ambulance to the Baptist Hospital Orange Emergency Room with minor injuries. The 64-year-old man driving the car and his 14-year-old passenger refused medical treatment at the scene, Orange police reported.
The collision was about 4:48 p.m. Police said a Chevrolet Equinox driven by the woman was traveling east in the outside lane of MacArthur. A Suzuki Forenza driven by the man was in the eastbound center lane. The Forenza changed lanes and went into the path of the SUV.
Police said the impact made the car go sideways. It then hit a curb and flipped over. The man was given a ticket for improper right turn.
Two separate collisions were reported Friday in the same area of MacArthur Drive. In both crashes a driver was given a ticket for unsafe turns into traffic.
Orange police are investigating the theft of lumber from a back storage building at Child’s hardware and lumber, 3714 North 16th Street.
Police were called to the store at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The owners said the lumber, estimated to be worth $5,000, had been taken during a period of almost a year. He was going to complete an inventory for a detailed list of the missing lumber.
Other thefts were also reported to Orange police on Tuesday. At 9 a.m., police went to a house in the 3800 block of Cochran Street in the Ridgemont subdivision. Someone had gotten into the garage, which had no door. Tools, a drill, battery charger and laundry detergent were among the items taken.
In the afternoon, a resident in the 2400 block of Post Oak Drive in the Oak Creek Village subdivision reported that jewelry was stolen from the house.
At 7:40, a resident in the 500 block of Camellia in Roselawn reported their kids’ new Playstation and controller had been stolen out of the garage.
