Five people were taken by ambulances to hospitals Friday after two separate collisions in the 2300 block of MacArthur Drive. Both crashes involved a vehicle making an unsafe turn in front of another vehicle, according to Orange police reports.
Also a motorcyclist was seriously injured when it collided with a car Thursday morning in the 600 block of Strickland Drive. Orange police said an 18-year-old Vidor man was taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with incapacitating injuries.
Police reported the motorcycle was traveling south in the 600 block of Strickland at 9:22 a.m. Thursday. A Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by a 39-year-old man from Orange was leaving from Home Depot. Witnesses told police the pickup truck had a green light and the motorcycle ran a red light, hitting the truck.
The motorcyclist was given citations for no motorcycle license, no insurance, expired license plates and running a red light.
The first crash on MacArthur Drive was at 10:20 a.m. Friday. A Chevrolet Impala driven by a 75-year-old woman from Orange was in the turn lane facing eastbound, police reported. An Acura Integra driven by a 19-year-old man from Orange was traveling westbound. Police said the Impala turned left into the path of the Acura. Even though the Acura driver tried evasive tactics, the cars collided.
The woman was taken by Acadian Ambulance to the Baptist Hospital Orange Emergency Room. Police said her injuries were non-incapacitating.
The woman was given a citation for failure to yield right-of-way on a left turn. The driver of the Acura was given citations for no operator’s license and no insurance.
Another crash was in the same block at 6:55 p.m. Friday. A Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 30-year-old woman from Orange was in the center turn lane traveling eastbound, police said.
A Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by a 45-year-old man from Orange was traveling westbound and turned to go into the Economy Inn. Police said he turned in front of the Suburban. After the two collided, the truck rolled in a circle, traveling through eastbound and westbound lanes.
The man was taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with non-incapacitating injuries.
Police reported the Suburban driver was not hurt, but a 30-year-old passenger, along with two children, ages 9 and 3, had non-incapacitating injuries. They were all taken by Acadian to Baptist Hospital Orange Emergency Room.
The driver of the pickup truck was given citations for improper left turn, driving while license invalid and no insurance. The driver of the Suburban was given citation for driving while license invalid and child not in a safety seat.
