The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Abbeville Louisiana Police Department think 61-year-old Eric Stansbury of Vidor was murdered in the Vidor area the morning of Tuesday, October 25.
They are looking for three suspects, two men and a woman, in connection with Stansbury’s death. His body was found inside his truck later that day in Abbeville. Police there said he appeared to have been shot to death.
Orange County Deputy Janois Grizzaffi said Stansbury left Vidor to go to work in Beaumont about 4 a.m. October 25. Abbeville investigators have tracked leads and believe he encountered three people who had run out of gas on Interstate 10 between FM 1132 and Main Street (FM 105).
An altercation may have developed that led to Stansbury being taken against his will. He may have left a work boot and cowboy hat behind.
The suspects were driving a gray 2016 Dodge four-door truck with red or blue colored pallets in the bed of the truck. Stansbury was driving a blue Ford F-250.
Detectives are hoping someone may have seen the trucks along the road that morning between 4 and 7 a.m. They may have been along the road, or at a convenience store in Vidor or the Beaumont area.
Deputy Grizzaffi said the three suspects may have bought gas and possibly garbage bags. The Dodge truck was seen following Stansbury’s Ford truck eastbound in Lake Charles about 8 that morning.
Police said the two men suspects are Robert Crooms and Kenton Crooms. A security video image of the woman has been obtained but police have not identified her.
Anyone with information about the suspects or anyone who might have seen the trucks should contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at 409-670-4125 or Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS (8477).
