The Bridge City Police Association has a new contract with the City of Bridge City. The City Council approved the contract Tuesday evening which will go into effect this month through September of 2017.
City Manager Jerry Jones said there were only two items changed from the previous contract. The first item was a three percent pay raise which will be paid to all city employees this year. The second item dealt with the sick leave policy. The change will still pay a retiring employee up to 500 hours of earned sick leave, but without taking a percentage of the employee’s sick leave after the first 200 hours. Jones stated, “They did ask for some other things, but they’re just not in the budget and we’ll just have to look at those next year.”
Bridge City is waiting on confirmation from the state of when it can start using the new filters in the city’s water system. Jones indicates the state is supposed to contact the city on Thursday of this week on whether Bridge City can activate the water filters.
The Splash Pad at the city park off of West Roundbunch Road needs a replacement part which is expected to be received this week. The water is not turning off properly forcing city employees to go to the Splash Pad to turn the water on manually when kids are there and return later to turn it off. The new part should remedy that problem.
Jones informed the City Council his office is still looking for a contractor to complete the ceiling on the Bridge City Public Library. He has talked to five different contractors including the one that originally put the ceiling up, but all are too busy to handle a small job like the library at this time. The library’s renovations were completed in the last month except for new ceiling tiles in one portion of the building.
