The Pinehurst City Council reappointed Debbie Cormier as the city secretary Tuesday night. Pinehurst Mayor Pete Runnels said Cormier is a great asset for the city. Runnels praised Cormier as going above and beyond in the performance of her duties as city secretary. She was unanimously reappointed for another year. Cormier has served as the city secretary since 2007.
The council re-adopted an ordinance concerning the tax abatement guideline policy. City Administrator Robbie Hood explained that the policy was adopted in 1999 and needs to be renewed every two years.
Hood then requested the city council approve a resolution for Pinehurst to create a re-investment zone for tax abatement purposes. Hood informed the council that the re-investment zone is an economic tool the city could use to attract businesses to Pinehurst. The city administrator indicated this is the first step in Pinehurst’s intent to create a re-investment zone. Hood told the city council in November he would come back with a map and other criteria for the council to adopt in its place. The resolution was unanimously approved.
The City Council approved a proclamation declaring October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Pinehurst. To show their support for breast cancer awareness each member of the council wore pink at Tuesday night’s meeting. Also attending the meeting were four members of Boy Scout Pack 311. Den Leader for the Arrows of Light Sarah Cloyd said one of the requirements for the scouts is to attend a city council meeting to observe how government works.
