Improvements to the Pinehurst wastewater treatment plant should be in the works within the next few weeks. The Pinehurst City Council held a special called session Monday to approve the contract for the construction project.
M K Constructors received the contract for doing the repairs to the wastewater treatment plant. Their bid of $280,614 was over the amount of the block grant, but M K Constructors will now only replace two instead of four aerators which should save about $42,000 from the cost. A Texas Community Development Block Grant will pay for the bulk of the work being done.
City Administrator Robbie Hood said the awarding of the contract will get the ball rolling to start the much needed repairs. All the motors at the plant have been faulty, are over 30 years old, and as a result are irreparable. The work done under this grant will replace the motors and other apparatus Hood stated to get the plant up to standards. He added that since there is only one Pinehurst City Council meeting a month and it takes two to three weeks to get the contractor and the paperwork done there was a need to call the special session of the council to expedite the process.
