Entering Week 3 of the football season the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears are looking for their first win. LC-M has lost the services of linebacker Hunter Fontenot for at least another week after he was injured in the season opener against Jasper.
Coach Randy Crouch is preparing the Bears for the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks who run the same Slot-T offense as they did last season against LC-M. The Hawks have some good runners in the backfield and they use misdirection to confuse the opposing defense. Crouch knows the Bears must play their assignments, read their keys, and H-J will be a real challenge for LC-M defensively.
On defense Hardin-Jefferson plays an even front, but Crouch says the Hawks are very aggressive. They get around the ball carrier real well, and Crouch indicates he has not seen many teams move the ball against them. The coach is hoping for the Bears blocking to improve Friday to allow his running backs and receivers to do some things.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville this week is reverting back to its old offense of a more open style instead of the run oriented Slot-T. Coach Crouch provides the key for the Bears’ offense to help LC-M gain its first victory of the season is take advantage of scoring opportunities. Crouch reminds the Bears have done a good job of not turning over the football, but emphasizes when the field position is in your favor and you get opportunities to score you have to take advantage of them.
The Bears and their coach are ready for a win Friday night. Coach Crouch is calling for better blocking and tackling from LC-M during practices in preparation for the game. “Hopefully, we can bring it to the table this week and have a good outing,” Crouch expresses.
The LC-M Bears play the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks Friday night at Battlin’ Bear Stadium. The kickoff will be at 7:00.
