The Deweyville Pirates have answered the challenge from their Coach Lance Dale to play more intense and do their jobs on the field. Coach Dale says the Pirates are not only doing their jobs, but are getting better at it each week.
This week is going to be the toughest test of the season yet. The Evadale Rebels run the Spread offense and throw the ball 95 percent of the time. Dale points to the Rebel that is drawing the most of his attention as Kolten Mackey who transferred to Evadale from Silsbee. Mackey is a possession receiver with great hands and may be the primary target for Rebels quarterback Tyler Torres. Dale reminds they have other talented receivers besides him as well.
Coach Dale tells what he is expecting from Evadale on defense is a base 4-3, but the Rebels will also run out of a 50 to stop run oriented teams like the Pirates. The Rebels have a big defensive line. Tye Frazier at middle linebacker Dale states is their best player on defense. Mackey will also make the Evadale secondary dangerous when Deweyville tries to throw the football.
The Pirates are looking to stay undefeated, and Dale provides the keys for Deweyville to beat Evadale. They need to keep Mackey covered and not lose containment on the other receivers. The Pirates may need to apply some pressure on the quarterback and not give him much time in the pocket to throw the ball. Deweyville must avoid penalties on offense. Coach Dale espouses that it is all about blocking and tackling. The team that does that best will win the football game.
The game is being billed as the first River Bowl between the two 2-0 teams. Coach Dale believes it will be a great initial meeting for the trophy. He is looking forward to seeing a lot of red and white in the Deweyville stands as well as blue and gold on the Evadale side. The game has been switched to Deweyville with the kickoff Friday night at 7:30. Dale predicts, “I just think it’s a great game and the two communities will be proud of both teams this Friday.”
