Layne Ashton Lewis is the latest Orange native to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. A Court of Honor ceremony was held at First Baptist Church Orange.
Layne is the son of Jeff Lewis and Terri Lewis. He is a member of the Three Rivers Council Troop 23 of Sabine District, chartered to the First Baptist Church Orange.
To earn his rank of Eagle, a Layne earned at least 21 merit badges and 12 Eagle Scout badges. An Eagle Scout must demonstrate leadership and community service by organizing and carrying out an Eagle Project.
For his project, Layne made wooden benches along a playground at his church, First Baptist Orange. The church also made a walking trail for which he made mile markers along the way.
Layne graduated in May from Little Cypress-Mauriceville, where he was the baseball manager for 4 years. He also received the Senior superlative of Most Courteous.
Layne plans to attend Lamar University Orange and major in nursing.
