The possible funding of a waste water treatment plant is still in the works. A coalition of local cities and counties has been working to receive part of the settlement by British Petroleum (BP) stemming from the Deep Water Horizon disaster.
Pinehurst City Administrator Robbie Hood provided an update this week on the BP settlement. The coalition has met a couple of times in the last few months. The group has applied for grant funding from Bucket 1 of the restore act to help facilitate the construction of a regional waste water treatment plant.
The location for the plant has not yet been determined. “We’re kind of looking towards the 1442 area as a centralized location for that treatment plant,” according to Hood.
Hood added that Bucket 1 has the least amount of strings attached to it by the federal government and has complete oversight by the Texas governor’s office. Approximately 200 applications have been reviewed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the General Land Office, and Texas Parks and Wildlife. Hood indicated announcements of awards probably will be made by the end of August.
