Police in some cities have been facing close scrutiny, but in at least one local community the City Council is singing the praise of their police department. West Orange Aldermen Mike Shugart and Dale Dardeau wanted to publicly thank Chief Mike Stelly for the work he and all his officers are doing with the West Orange Police Department.
Shugart thanked Chief Stelly, Assistant Chief Jesse Romero, Investigator Lieutenant Matt Frederick, and all patrolmen Dennis Hankins, John Brown, Steve Hilton, Chuck Cobb, Bobby Ashworth, and Sam Carpenter for their excellent work which he has heard positive comments from citizens. Dardeau mentioned Ashworth specifically for his actions during a funeral where he attended as a mourner and ended up serving as an escort for the funeral when he saw one was necessary. Dardeau believes Ashworth’s action speaks for the whole police force. “That’s the type of people we have that they see something needs to be done they do it.”
Alderman Dardeau is also excited about the recent street striping that has been done by the City of West Orange. Dardeau exclaimed, “I think the project was A-1.” The alderman expressed that it was the best beautification project done in West Orange in some time, and he received several comments from citizens how much it has improved the city and how well drivers can see the stripes at night. Streets that got new paint jobs were Austin, Burnett, Lansing, Newton, and South. White stripes were painted on the outside of each street with yellow hash marks painted down the center.
