Knight Steps Down At Bridge City

One of Bridge City’s most successful coaches is leaving the game (for now).  Cody Knight is joining his brother and former BC basketball coach Tony in the Barbers Hill School District where he will be a teacher next year.  “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity,” he said.  “But that doesn’t mean I won’t coach again.  I know I’ll miss it.”

Knight’s cross country teams have been dominant since he took over.  The boys have won the district title 15 out of 16 years (including 9 in a row) and the girls have won district 12 times since 2000.  Both teams qualified for playoffs (regionals) every single year, and never placed worse than district runner up.

The boys were represented at State ten times and the girls four times.

Most recently the guys missed out on state as a team by less than 10 points the past two seasons.

The boys also placed 1-7 at district twice during that time, and won 14 individual district titles from 2000-2013.

Knights teams competed against the bigger schools throughout the season and he was the go-to coach for all things cross country, running many meets and creating several meets to help support the sport.

Knight said, I’m excited about the next chapter in my life and happy for my family, but I will never forget my time with BCISD.  Made so many great memories, and will miss countless colleagues and students.”
