UT Arlington freshman Alexus Henry of Bridge City has earned honorable mention All-America honors from the U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association after tying for 17th place in the women’s high jump at the NCAA Championships on Saturday.
During her rookie season, Henry became the school record holder in the indoor high jump (5 feet, 11 1/2 inches) and posted the second-best outdoor mark in school annals (5 feet 10 3/4 inches).
“We are very proud of Alexus and all that she accomplished as a freshman,” UTA coach John Sauerhage said. “She has a bright future, and we are so pleased she is a Maverick.”
Henry cleared 5 feet, 8 inches (1.73 meters), which was the opening height, on her first try. She was one of just three freshmen in the 24-person field and was the first UTA female ever to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the high jump.
Alabama junior Hayden Reed (LCM) finished 16th in the discus with a throw of 180-8.
