
Orange County Health Inspector went to 22 food businesses and put out an honor roll. All scored in the 90s with six making perfect scores.
The perfect scores were too Little Cypress Learning Center at Little Cypress Baptist Church, Express Mart on Texas Avenue in Bridge City, Orange Community Action (Meals on Wheels), Holiday Inn Express in Orange, Red Wagon Cafe in Vidor, and Woogies Sandwiches in Vidor.
Scales made a pre-opening inspection with no score for Gina C’s Catering on Hinch Road in Vidor.
Other scores and demerits are:
Taco Bell, 2929 16th Street in Orange: 98. Light shield was needed inside the walk-in freezer. Floors, especially under the three-compartment sink needed to be cleaned.
Stop and Shop, 111 Green Avenue in Orange: 98. Walls still had damage from the March flood. Restroom needed to be cleaned.
Subway, 2637 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 97. Ice scoop was on top of the ice machine. Mold and slime were inside the ice machine.
Day’s Inn, 2630 Interstate 10 West in Orange: 97. Milk and eggs inside the reach-in cooler were not at proper temperatures.
Speedy Stop Food Mart, 690 North Main Street in Vidor: 96. Mold and slime were on drink dispensers. Walls and floors needed to be cleaned of old foods. The outside of the reach-in coolers needed to be cleaned of mold and slime. Air vents needed to be cleaned of dust. Water was under outside doors of the walk-in cooler and needed repairing. More general cleaning was needed.
Brookshire Brothers/Deli, 1380 North Main Street in Vidor: 95. Dates were needed on products on sales floor. Flies and gnats were found. The area under drink dispensers needed to be cleaned. Walls and ceilings needed to be cleaned of old foods and dust. The area around the cake-decorating spot needed to be cleaned more often. Outside of storage buckets needed to be cleaned.
Texas Country Store, 3701 North 16th Street in Orange: 95. Rust was inside the ice machine. Mold was on drink dispensers. Drinks were stored on the floor inside the walk-in cooler. Walls and ceiling inside the walk-in cooler needed to be cleaned of old foods and dust. Floors throughout store needed to be cleaned and repaired.
105 A-1 Smoke Shop, 5320 North Main Street in Vidor: 94. Establishment opened without all required permits. No food service permit was obtained before the opening. Inspectors found that the employee restroom did not have paper towels. Mice feces were on top of the ice machine. Inspector recommended resealing the back door.
Kim’s Donut Place, 3041 Highway 12 in Vidor: 94. Sausage, boudain and eggs were not at proper temperatures. Store did not keep a record of the time for held items containing boudain, sausage and eggs.
Dollar General, 4080 Highway 105 in Vidor: 93. Inspector found several dented cans and one can with a black substance on top. The women’s restroom had an ‘out of order’ sing on the front. Business needed to repair restroom. Paper towels needed to be on the holder inside the men’s restroom. Inspector found lots of spiders and webs along the walls and ceilings. Ceiling tiles were missing or damaged.
Stop N Drive, 1801 DuPont Drive in Orange: 93. Black mold was inside the ice machine. Several expired foods were on sales floor. Drinks were stored on the floor inside the walk-in cooler. Walls and ceiling inside the walk-in cooler needed to be cleaned of old foods and dust. Floors throughout the store needed to be cleaned and repaired. Back storage room needed to be cleaned and organized.
Happy Donuts, 495 South Main Street in Vidor: 93. Sausage, boudain and eggs not at proper temperatures. Store did not keep records of times for holding products with sausage, boudain and eggs. Gnats found in back storage area. Dead bugs were in most light shields. Store needed to discard or repair broken and unused equipment.
Mama Lupe Mexican Grill, 2615 Western Avenue in West Orange: 92. Raw chicken was stored above vegetables inside the reach-in cooler. Foods were being stored inside metal cans inside the reach-in cooler. Dates were needed on products inside the coolers and freezers. Dirty dishes were in the hand-washing sink. Owner pulled all dishes. Floors, especially near fryers, needed to be cleaned of old foods.
Vidor Superette, 2410 North Main Street in Vidor: 92. Inside of cappuccino machine needed to be cleaned. Restroom did not have hot water. Store name and address were needed on bags of ice being sold. Drinks were stored on the floor inside the walk-in cooler.
Little Caesar’s Pizza, 866 North Main Street in Vidor: 91. Chicken was stored above pizza sauce inside the walk-in cooler. Dates were needed on all products. Some products had only day of the week stickers without actual dates. Paper towels needed at the hand-washing stations. Oven needed to be cleaned immediately because of food build-up. Vent area needed to be cleaned. Floors and walls throughout store needed to be cleaned of old foods. Back door needed to be re-sealed.
