BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University senior Sarah Ragsdale became the first Lamar University softball player to be named a first-team College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District Team selection, CoSIDA announced Thursday. Ragsdale is now on the national ballot for Academic America team.
Ragsdale, an exercise science major, has a perfect 4.00 grade-point average in the classroom. On the field, Ragsdale is hitting .250 with 16 RBIs. The left fielder leads LU outfielders with 21 putouts in Southland Conference action.
A transfer from San Jacinto College, Ragsdale made an immediate impact as a junior last season, as she hit .315 while starting all 54 games. She set LU single-game records with six hits and four stolen bases in a contest against Northwestern State at the Southland Conference Tournament.
“Sarah definitely deserves the honor,” LU coach Holly Bruder said. “She is one of our hardest workers, and that 3ffort is not only in athletics, but in academics as well.”
Ragsdale and the Cardinals (31-17 overall, 17-7 Southland) close the regular season with a three-game Southland Conference series at Nicholls this weekend. The teams play a single game at 6 p.m. Friday and a doubleheader at noon Saturday. The Cardinals, who have already clinched a berth in next week’s Southland Conference Tournament, could finish in second place and earn a first-round bye with a series sweep of the Colonels.
