Orange police have been working with the Beaumont Police Department to investigate the recent smash-and-grab thefts at convenience stores. Early Friday morning, another Beaumont store was hit but the thieves failed to get the ATM that was the target.
Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said investigators from Orange went to Beaumont to meet with detectives there to exchange and compare information.
On March 29 about 2:40 a.m., thieves using two trucks stolen in Orange ran one of the trucks into the Shell store, 1955 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Men ran inside the open store, carried off the ATM and put it in the back of a pickup. One of the trucks was late found abandoned in Pinehurst. The ATM was found in Houston emptied of the cash.
A similar smash-and-grab theft happened in Beaumont in February. Then again in Beaumont early Friday, thieves ran a truck into a convenience store on East Caldwood Street, but they were not able to take the ATM.
