A two-year extension of the in-lieu-of-tax agreement between the City of West Orange and Rescar was approved by the City Council Monday. Mayor Roy McDonald said the agreement is similar to those West Orange has with other industries in its extra territorial jurisdiction. McDonald stated the city negotiates the same rate of in-lieu-of-tax for all of them. The agreement will run from January 2017 to the end of December 2018.
Mayor McDonald commented on why West Orange is advertising for proposals of landfill services is that it has been several years since the city received bids on such services. McDonald added that usually the city will approve a five-year agreement and may renew it once, but it’s time to go out for bids now. West Orange uses the landfill to dispose of items the city picks up for residents like branches and other debris.
The City Council approved an amendment to an earlier disaster grant to have an attorney firm in Houston provide legal services regarding the demolition of five mores structures in West Orange. The city has been demolishing structures that did not meet city codes over the last couple of years.
April was also proclaimed Fair Housing Month and a public hearing was held to hear citizens’ comments on fair housing. The hearing was lightly attended.
