The Commissioners Court approved a proclamation Wednesday that recognized the American Red Cross as everyday heroes. Larry David and Ida Schossow accepted the proclamation on behalf of Red Cross. David said the recent flooding disaster of the Sabine River was a major event. David indicated Red Cross has categorized the flooding disaster as a Category 4, its highest rating, and there are actually two disaster areas, one in Texas and one in Louisiana. He concluded that Orange is fortunate they are going to be here to help.
Cleanup from the flooding is still in the works. The Court will meet Friday at the Convention and Expo Center with federal officials to discuss criteria before proceeding with the removal of debris from the flood. The Commissioners took a step to be ready for the cleanup by approving $27,000 Wednesday to purchase two grapples that will be used on trucks to grab debris put by the curb.
For the second week in a row approval of the third party financing agreement between the county and Way Service to conduct an energy efficiency project was tabled. Assistant County Attorney Doug Manning requested it be tabled to allow him to do further review of the agreement.
Commissioners gave approval for the use of county buses during the upcoming Redfish Elite Classic in Orange. Ida Schossow with the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce made the request. Schossow thanked the Court adding how helpful the buses will be to transport visitors during the fishing tournament from different things that they have like the Stark cultural venues and Art In The Park in downtown to the boat ramp where the fishing tournament will be held. The 2016 Redfish Elite Classic will be held the weekend of April 8-9 at the Orange Boat Ramp.
