The young man police said organized an armed robbery of a loan company will serve 33 years in prison. 163rd State District Judge Dennis Powell on Wednesday gave the punishment to 21-year-old Joshua Tremaine Shaw of Orange.
Shaw was one of four young men charged with aggravated robbery of the Sun Loan, 1104 16th Street, on August 24 last year. It was the second armed robbery of the business within two months.
Assistant District Attorney Krispen Walker said Shaw was seen in surveillance video outside the business giving directions to the others involved. She said once inside, two robbers aimed pistols “right in the faces” of the two women working in the office.
Walker said Judge Powell told Shaw that young men have choices in life and they can get a job like mowing yards to earn money rather robbing people.
Previously, 18-year-old Raymond Charles Young pleaded guilty to the robbery and received a sentence of 15 years in prison. Walker said Young cooperated with police. She said the video showed Young at the door of the office as a lookout. At one point, he working to calm down the armed men as the tension escalated, Walker said.
Charges in the robbery are still pending against 24-year-old Jordan Chancelor Pitre and 23-year-old Mason Paul Butler in connection with the robbery.
