The full Commissioners Court met in the Vidor City Hall Monday morning because of the uncertainty with the availability for the Administration Building at the Courthouse last week when the agenda was released. The Court approved Hotel Occupancy Tax funds for both the Mauriceville Crawfish Festival and the Texas Barbecue Festival in Vidor. The two festivals will be held on successive weekends in the later part of April. Each festival will receive $8,000 in HOT funds. Commissioners approved a letter of intent between Orange County and the Corps of Engineers for the flood prevention project planned between Sabine Pass and Galveston Bay. County Judge Brint Carlton emphasized that the agreement does not commit Orange County to paying for anything at this point.
Sheriff Keith Merritt was approved to spend almost $6,000 on forensic software. Approval of the third party financing for the project with Way Service was tabled until next week to allow County Attorney Doug Manning the time to study the paperwork which circumstances last week prevented him doing.
Also tabled was the proclamation recognizing the American Red Cross and thanking them for being everyday heroes. No representatives from Red Cross were able to attend the meeting in Vidor, and the actual proclamation had been left in Orange by mistake. The Court agreed to read the proclamation at the next meeting and hopefully present it to members of Red Cross then.
