
A baby and a toddler had minor injuries while riding in a car that was involved a three-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon at 16th Street and Burton Avenue. Orange police report the baby girl and 2-year-old boy were taken by Acadian Ambulance to the Baptist Hospital Emergency Room in Orange.
Police Sunday in less than two hours investigated two three-vehicle crashes and a case of a woman running into the building at Jack in the Box Restaurant. All three were on 16th Street, which is also North Highway 87.
The collision involving the children was reported at 1:48 p.m. Police said a Buick LeSabre driven by 26-year-old Artis Rubin of Orange was traveling southbound on 16th Street. The car was in the inside turning lane to turn left onto Burton Avenue between Kroger and Walgreen’s.
Police reported the traffic light does not have a protected turn signal. The Buick turned left and was hit in the front passenger side by a Nissan Titan pickup truck driven by 68-year-old Buron Risinger of DeQuincy, Louisiana.
The force of the collision made the Buick hit a Chevrolet Traverse that was stopped at the traffic light on westbound Burton.
The children were traveling in the Buick. No other injuries were reported. Police said the driver of the Buick was given a ticket for failure to yield right-of-way.
Another three-vehicle collision was reported at 1:07 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of 16th Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Orange police reported one woman received minor injuries.
Police said a Lincoln Town Car driven by 79-year-old Joyce Shillings was driving southbound on 16th Street (Highway 87) and did not stop for a red traffic light at the intersection of MLK Drive.
The Lincoln hit a Chevrolet Silverado C1500 pickup truck driven by 22-year-old Sheldon Clark of Deweyville. Police said the Silverado was legally in the intersection turning from MLK north to Highway 87. Clark and his passenger were not hurt.
After colliding with the pickup truck, the Lincoln traveled into the northbound lane of Highway 87 and hit another Chevrolet Silverado that was stopped at the traffic light facing northward. The driver of the truck was 60-year-old Alan Swanton of Vidor. He and his passenger were not hurt.
