The Bridge City Cardinals used a 5-run fourth inning to open up a big lead and coasted to a 10-5 victory over the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears at Don Gibbens Field Friday night. It was a good start for the Cardinals in their district opener. The Bears drop to 1-1 in district with the loss.
Winning pitcher Tod McDowell hit a two-run double down the left field line in the decisive fourth. Tanner Doiron followed with a double to left center field that plated two more Cardinals to give Bridge City a 9-1 lead. Doiron scored on a wild pitch to make the score 10-1.
The Bears got a pair runs in the bottom of the fourth on a double by Drake Trawhon. LC-M tallied two more in the sixth as Grant White had a run batted in. It could have been more as Mitchel Lee flew out to the fence at the deepest part of Gibbens Field in left center field; and his brother Michael then lined into an inning ending double play after a superb catch by Cardinals’ second baseman Bradley Thibodaux.
A bright spot for LC-M was the relief pitching of Christian Fuselier who pitched shutout ball for four innings. Bridge City got two strong innings out of Kevin Gordon who closed out the game for the Cardinals.
