A burglar was critically injured Tuesday night by a resident who attacked him with a machete, according to Orange police.
A police report said officers were called about 10 p.m. to a disturbance at a house on Lutcher Street, which in the subdivision by Sunset Park. The subdivision is on the west side of the railroad tracks. The opposite side has been under mandatory evacuation since Monday night.
The 54-year-old homeowner and a 31-year-old man got into a fight as the homeowner tried to protect himself and his property, police said in a media release.
The 31-year-old has been identified as Clifton Locks of Orange. He was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with a large cut across his abdomen.
Police said no arrests have been made and they are continuing to investigate.
