A man from Orange now has 52 years to serve in state prison for robbing elderly people after following them home from stores with pharmacies.
43-year-old Preston Joseph Robertson pleaded guilty in 260th State District Court to the 2014 robbery of a Little Cypress man. His punishment was set at 12 years to be added onto a 40-year sentence he received last year in Jefferson County.
The 83-year-old Little Cypress man was robbed and beaten at his home about 1:30 in the afternoon of May 8, 2014. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office reported the victim heard a knock at his door. When he answered the door, a man beat the resident and robbed him.
Robertson, who sometimes used the last name Robinson, was arrested in Orange in late May 2014 by the Southeast Texas Joint Fugitive Task Force.
Police said he also robbed a 73-year-old Beaumont man on April 1, 2014, and an 81-year-old Nederland man on May 9, 2014. In September 2015, he pleaded guilty to those two charges for a total of 40 years in prison.
Investigators said Robertson targeted older customers at stores with pharmacies. He would follow them home, knock on the door and then beat and rob them.
