The Orange City Council will have a special meeting to “discuss the design, specifications and purchase of fire trucks.” The public meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 22, in the training room of Central Fire Station.
When City Manager Shawn Oubre presented the 2016 city budget to the council this past August, he told the council he wanted to use $375,000 the city is getting from a lawsuit against British Petroleum for a new pumper truck. He said the city had saved $125,000 from the 2015 budget toward a new, $500,000 pumper truck. The lawsuit money is to cover the loss of sales tax and income the city sustained because of the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The council approved Oubre’s budget, which went into effect October 1. During the regular council meeting this past Tuesday, Oubre asked the council if they wanted a separate workshop to discuss the details of the new fire truck.
