Orange police used a Taser shock gun early Tuesday morning on a naked man who was intoxicated on a substance. The man now faces misdemeanor charges of public intoxication and evading arrest.
Officer J.L. Goins reported police were called about 1:30 a.m. to Morrell and Third streets in the Navy Park addition because of a naked man standing in the street and screaming.
Officer Goins said when she arrived the man was on his knees in the grass median of Third and Knox streets. “The male was screaming and grabbing himself,” she reported.
The man would not follow the officer’s orders to lay down with his arms behind his back. Instead, he stood up and started running down the street. Officer Goins said Lieutenant Eric Ellison ran after the man and used his Taser to shock the man in the back.
The man then fell down and cooperated with police. Officer Goins said the man was taken to Baptist Hospital Orange Emergency Room to be checked and medically cleared.
The 31-year-old was taken to the Orange County Jail for public intoxication and evading arrest, both misdemeanors.
