The Board of Directors for the Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) met for a combined five hours or more Wednesday and Thursday in an effort to work out how to proceed into the New Year. County Judge Brint Carlton provided the results agreed to by the board. Carlton said the directors decided to go with a contract service the Regional Economic Development Initiative which the EDC is already a member, but will expand its partnership with at an additional $1,000 a month for an interim period. Regional Economic Development Initiative will handle projects for Orange County until it gets a new executive director.
Judge Carlton mentioned previously that he and Commissioner Barry Burton had a candidate in mind for the executive director’s position. He confirmed that the Board of Directors did not interview that candidate during the meetings. Carlton said the EDC will be seeking a new executive director shortly. Judge Carlton stated as soon as possible the Economic Development Corporation will advertise for the new executive director position, and the advertisement will last for a period of not less than 30 days.
The current Executive Director Bobby Fillyaw leaves his position on December 31. The office of the Economic Development Corporation in the Port District of Orange is being moved this week to the Administration Building of the Orange County Courthouse.
