A man living at the Linkwood Apartments was assaulted Saturday night by a man he suspected of being a car burglar. The burglar got away after purposely ripping his shirt. However, the burglar left behind a cell phone.
Orange Officer Brian Latiolais reported he went to the apartments at 1500 W. Link Avenue at 8:11 p.m. The resident told police he watched the man try car doors to see if they were open. When a door opened, the resident went up to the man and asked what he was doing. The man replied he was looking for a screwdriver. The resident then told the man to leave the property or he’d call police.
The burglar then came up to the resident and punched him in the face three or four times. He also elbowed the resident in the face, breaking the resident’s eyeglasses and cutting him. In addition, the burglar bit the resident on the elbow. During the struggle, the burglar tore his own shirt and ran away. Officer Latiolais seized the dropped cell phone for evidence.
A thief must have caught Mustang fever after the West Orange-Stark win Saturday afternoon to go to the state championship game. Kroger on 16th Street called Orange police at 8:20 Saturday evening to report that a man took two Mustang hoodie sweatshirts and walked off without paying for them. The shirts were valued at $30 each.
