Two sisters ages 5 and 7 were found safe in Orange Sunday after a car-jacker in Louisiana stole the truck they were riding in. Orange Police Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said Louisiana law enforcement tracked the truck with a cell phone that had been left inside. Patrol Captain Keith Longlois found the girls inside the truck parked in the 300 block of North Street off Simmons Drive.
The girls told police they heard the car-jacker talking on the phone with other people. When he parked the truck on North Street, another pickup truck drove up. The car-jacker got inside and the other truck drove away.
Captain Hargrave said the car-jacking began in Sulphur when a woman’s purse was snatched. She got the license plate number off the snatcher’s truck. Sulphur police began to chase it. The police vehicle had a crash and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office picked up the chase.
Captain Hargrave said the purse-snatcher ran into the back of a Toyota Tacoma pickup. When the driver of the Toyota stopped and got out to check the damage, the purse-snatcher got inside the Toyota and drove off with it. The girls were in the backseat of the Toyota.
